When I was a kid
I used to write
short poems on paper
with colorful ink pens

In high school
I used to write poetry
inside the margins
of my text books

In my college days
I used to type poetry
on an old typewriter
replaced by a computer

Now I sit here
posting poems to a blog
from a touch screen
in the palm of my hand

Every minute
the dilemma changes
morphing into
the truth out loud
sleeping on the subway
waiting for a break
trying to catch up
at the end of a long day
enjoy more of what you love

So slow you hardly notice
But it all adds up to a lot
And soon you'll see it happen
Your work will pay dividends
Exponentially accumulating
Until small becomes large

creative expression spilling out
endless pages of rambling words
spontaneous explosions of poetry
recorded for a frozen cold eternity

solid gold dance party
hostage rescue situation
kicking up high in the air
really good jobs out there

hideous monsters in magazines
zombie armies peeling off skin
confusion in the cockpit trouble
a rocket knocked down the plane

thirteen ghost stories in the dead of night
upstairs in the attic we hear strange noises
ominous music playing out of nowhere
windows into another level of existance

Green green grass in the summer

Hard work

with each passing day

kicking up dirt
particles in the air
clogging up lungs
irritating our eyes
wipe away the grime
wash off the slime
kiss the garden rose
with toxic breath
paving the road

get away as fast as you can
don't look back

this neighborhood has changed
it's never easy to watch it happen
but it's not the same around here
these are not the same people

stolen golden precious jewels
broken hearts dipped in chocolate
somewhere in time lost in transit
reckless abandon wrapped in regret

Sad feelings
Lost enthusiasm
Stopped caring

Sitting on the corner
Of Chrystie and Delancey
Looking up at the empty spot
Where the Twin Towers used to be

So much has changed
In the days and years
Since the towers fell
We can never go back

And I think about our neighbors
Who never made it home that day
I think about the families they left behind
Then I hug my son as hard as I can

without any boundaries

explosions of experience
fresh from imagination
in oceans of inspiration

homes are built then they crumble

gears and gizmos grind
programmed to receive
radioactive rewind mind
all together up in flames

tune in to the television
broadcast into the future
casting rays of illumination
into the dreadful darkness

their lightbulb eyes met
a strong connection set
uploaded between signals
rebooted by the spark

the laws of attraction apply
to the cult of men and machine
and I read it in a magazine
nature always wins in the end

We can go anywhere
Across town on the local bus
Or by walking down back streets

Stop for ice cream
On the way home after a long day
The cool sweet refreshment chills me

Sprinklers spraying water
At the playground in the afternoon
The children are laughing as they play

A calm stroll around
On a warm summer evening at sunset
The neighborhood is crackling with excitement

Burning for a hot chance to cool off
Bouncing back from serious injuries
Swimming deep inside wounded hearts

Cold rainy morning
The long subway ride
Stop and go on the local line

Grab a quick cup of hot coffee
Drop in a handful of ice cubes
Add some sweet sweet sugar

Walk past the Nine Eleven memorial
Remember that day like yesterday
Take a moment to pause and reflect

Enter the courthouse at nine
Go through the metal detectors
Belt buckle sets off the alarm

Gulp down all the coffee
Before entering the courtroom
