It's getting dark now
and the power is still out
the subways are flooded
the roads are all closed

It's all about illumination
candles flickering in windows
flashlight batteries and radio news
we're living on potato chips



   

10-29-12 Sandy Frankenstorm

At the mercy
of Mother Nature
we seek shelter
to survive
this monster storm
with trees snapping
all around us

The native animals
are confused and bewildered
as intense wind gusts blow
at a hundred miles an hour
swishing swirling and stirring
churning stormy waters
surging in at high tide
under the full moon

Oceans rising very quickly
with debris flying through the air
causing long term power outages
with severe damage to infrastructure

Destruction raging in full force
flooding fierce unrelenting waves
in the hearts of our city streets
crushing everything in it's path
the innocent victims of nature's wrath
we'll all be lucky to escape with our lives

10-28-12 As We Move Through Time

Skip the trip trap transportation machine
Carry your torch across the centuries
Forwards and backwards through decades
Stopping along the line to witness history

Have a sultry affair with Cleopatra on the Nile
Drink wine with Jesus Christ on a Friday night
Hitchhike far out across America with Kerouac
See Hendrix on New Year's Eve at the Fillmore

But never change a single thing along the way
Because realities can shift in a split second
And once the chain reaction goes into effect
We won't be able to turn back the clock again

Grazing in grassy fields
Fattening up on oats and feed

Their minds are wandering
But they don't know what to think

Their eyes are opened wide
But they can't see a thing

One by one by one they go
Into the house of death and blood

Led blindly to their slaughter
As they follow the rest of the flock

To the butcher's block

On his way to the next destination

Early evening on the avenue

The ageless beauty

but when you look to see
the wrinkles on their skin
it becomes quite clear
that they've lived life hard
and been through the wars

But in this age and day
you can smooth those wrinkles away
with an injection or surgery
and underneath the cosmetic mask
they are old and frightened
because the new generation
is rising up against the old regime
which will soon become extinct
