So many young people
are dying young around me
and I wonder why we're dying

Is it crazy to think
Facebook and cell phones
are slowly killing us all

Maybe it's because
we're not as young
as we think we are

Mortal without a choice
waiting for our time to come
having a good life while we're here





       

06-19-13 Ghosts That Time Forgot

In the old halls
you can feel their energy
echoing through the ages
in the fountains of forever
their presence is obvious
always watching
they never leave
they simply linger

Far away from home
Fighting the war
Wishing I was back

Bombs exploding
All around us
Death and destruction

remembering old times from another life

trumpets playing sad songs in the night
summer thunderstorms are back again
cool raindrops sizzle on hot pavement
fireflies flashing bright green illumination

confidential information compromised
secret messages hidden within the text
beautiful flowers growing in a garden
animals waking up in the city zoo at dawn

headlights flashing
across the avenue
in the same neighborhood
standing out in the street
hunting for a yellow taxi
at the end of a long night





       

06-15-13 Demons Dancing With Messiahs

The damage is done

city streets are up in flames

get out of town before you drown

Wake up in a strange place

scavenging for scraps of food

away from all the other refugees

After the initial impact

clouds of black smoke part ways

surprised to find that the sun still shines

The stench of death and disease

spreads like wildfire across the planet

wiping out many of the suffering survivors 

But there were a chosen few

who sacrificed their souls to save the world

for the good 

Now it's just another day

when we remember the struggles

our ancestors endured after the apocalypse

Seems like a complicated mess
wrapped up in the typical drama
until the tension lifts and releases
when the bad energy dissolves

Loudmouth fast action double talk
putting up a smokescreen distraction
laying down the usual slick routine
spending words wisely in a whisper

Frozen hearted betrayal of sacred trust
with instinctive cannibalistic tendencies
eaten alive by a feast of fabulous beasts
treated to a savage festival of humanity

speeding down hill on dirt bikes blinded
skateboard pirates rolling down the sidewalk

woke up and you were gone

awakenings come and find you gone

woken up and you disappeared
wake me up before you leave
waking up and you are going

gone were you and awake was I
yolk up and you were a goonie
chalk up and you were glowing

throw up and you were green
flip out and yawn with grace
travel back and yesterday was groovy

tune in and watch your favorite show
turn on and let the spirit live within us

Running through the streets
screaming and singing out loud
joyous celebration in the fresh air
shaking our hips to the heavy beat
messing up our hair without a care
dancing crazy like insane maniacs

fairytales and nightingales
drifting away in the moment
behind the emergence of truth

emancipated after a free fall
flight risk politics rejected
solid in atomic atmospheres
on oceans of silky milk chocolate

emotionally exhausted
broken down and out of luck
falling asleep on the sidewalk
a unique voice lost in the chorus

swirling eternally

Odd voices speaking
in grim hushed tones
mumbling something incoherent
straight out of a living nightmare

Darkness with the lights on
shadows telling a sad story
black clouds floating above

When we used to go
out on long drives
in the old car
there would be
endless road ahead
unwinding before our eyes

Life used to be infinite
and the plans we made
would all come together
perfectly falling into place
as if destiny had chosen
the path that we would travel

Then we lost the map
at the crossroads between
darkness and light
in the moment of time
where dreams meet reality
