old stone steps worn down
tangled telephone wires
a broken light fixture
without any bulbs in it
that tall glass window
with a wooden frame
and ugly green curtains
which have long since
gone out of fashion style
the original stage door
coated with layers of paint
built up over the decades
when you walk through
it's like time is standing still

running around town
with thirteen cents
in my left pocket

so many memories on every street
strolling around in the afternoon
stop at McSorley's for a drink
stumble home blind at night

wake up in the morning
roll out of bed onto the floor
gazing up at the ceiling tiles
staring straight into everything

all the disco balls exploded
after the Great Recession
took all our money away
