Overlords of darkness
hitting the streets downtown
the traffic lights seem brighter
speeding in yellow taxi cabs
chasing the elusive spark

Falling asleep on the train
riding loose in the middle
straight from Brooklyn
through Manhattan into Queens
and all the way back again

When my son was born
I promised him
I'd always dry
his precious tears

I didn't know
that babies cry
all day long
for hours on end

So I promise now
to try my best
to dry his tears
whenever I can

If I'm not there
the breeze will blow
and dry those tears
right from his eyes

Cities crumbling down to dust

Plant a tree to save the world
Clean the polluted air we breathe
Shade and shelter from the elements
Cultivate nature growing in a garden

Of human power

putting the ball in play
pushed hard on force
swimming with piranhas
warriors fighting death
they smell fresh blood
shut down in a firestorm
pulling off another stunt
knocked you to the ground
humbled by the universe

We were all one big happy family
Before the giant fireball came
Crashing down from the heavens

The debris field stretched for miles
Little green men were scattered around
Radiation waves and magnetic metals

Then the feds rolled in like vultures
Strange men in black suits and sunglasses
Made us keep our mouths shut about what we saw

Unexplained mysteries of the universe
Fantasy becomes unbelievable reality
Objects flying through the invisible air

future technologies will figure it out

the original condition crumbled

living out in the upper atmosphere

solid oceans of chocolate insanity

learning lessons from past experience

driving out of control into oblivion

it takes a certain type of talent

to write out really bad poems 

but the story between the lines

is the importance of creativity

keep on writing every day nonstop 

don't ever look back in the mirror

Up early on Saturday morning
watching cartoons at daybreak
munching on sweet Cocoa Puffs
playing with tricked out action figures

Robots flying in space ships from the future
Superheroes fighting against evil villains
Magical characters coming to life on television
Flipping through stacks of colorful comic books

Lazy days before Grandma died
before Mom and Dad got divorced
before mortgage payments piled up
before the agony of heartbreak

stormy outside the window
extreme elemental shifts
cold chill blowing through
nasty weather rumbling

shut off the lights
turn on the television
snuggle up under the blankets
cradled in a nest of warm pillows

seek immediate shelter
hunker down in the bedroom
draw the shades close the curtains
disappear into a secret hideaway

while we are all in mourning
