We can go anywhere
Across town on the local bus
Or by walking down back streets

Stop for ice cream
On the way home after a long day
The cool sweet refreshment chills me

Sprinklers spraying water
At the playground in the afternoon
The children are laughing as they play

A calm stroll around
On a warm summer evening at sunset
The neighborhood is crackling with excitement

Pony rides
Cotton candy
Bouncy castle
Water slide

Green grass
Warm sun
Cool breeze
Children laugh



 

06-06-14 Coffee Coma Daydream

Searching for a great place in time
Flipping through old golden photos
Remembering those wild memories
Finding the true meaning of existence

Burning for a hot chance to cool off
Bouncing back from serious injuries
Swimming deep inside wounded hearts
Falling asleep on the subway platform




 

06-05-14 Kentucky Fried Humans

When the Martians attack
They'll land in the cities
And fry us alive with their
Radioactive laser ray guns
Then they'll freeze dry us
And dip us in a secret blend
Of magical herbs and spices
To ship us all off to Mars
For their annual holiday feast
When the third moon rises up
Over Saturn's dark red horizon
At the beginning of eternity

Cold rainy morning
The long subway ride
Stop and go on the local line

Grab a quick cup of hot coffee
Drop in a handful of ice cubes
Add some sweet sweet sugar

Walk past the Nine Eleven memorial
Remember that day like yesterday
Take a moment to pause and reflect

Enter the courthouse at nine
Go through the metal detectors
Belt buckle sets off the alarm

Gulp down all the coffee
Before entering the courtroom
Get ready to kick some ass

Wait patiently

It's not so easy
to create a new poem
every single day
on command

It's tough to open up my heart
and craft an interesting poem
that will be thought provoking
on a universal level

You told me to write two poems
in a race against the clock
like it's something simple
that happens without effort

Sometimes poems write themselves
other times I have to rip them out
from deep within my soul
but tonight this is all I've got

In little mobs
Around the park benches

Laughter good cheer
There's a happy energy here

is the worst time to get sick
because you feel lousy all week
coughing sneezing choking wheezing
until the cherry cold medicine kicks in

buzzing numb to the touch

and you can finally drift off
into a peaceful sleep
