When I was a child
I learned to express myself
by writing poetry in notebooks
and I've never stopped
When I was a teenager
I wanted to be like Jim Morrison
exploring the darkness of chaos
and opening the doors of perception
When I was a young adult
I patterned my life after Jack Kerouac
scribbling poems while on the road
and grooving to my own beats
Now that I am a grown man
I only want to be Mathew Demek
perfecting my creative writings
and impacting the world with poetry
