I stood underneath
the Stemmons Freeway sign
in the warm Dallas sunshine
and soon I saw the motorcade
winding around into Dealy Plaza
I looked into his eyes
raised my black umbrella
and spun it in the air
That was the signal
for the snipers to begin shooting
And as the presidential limousine
sped away under the overpass
I sat down on the edge of the grass
and wondered what we had done
