A broken tree leaves us with a void in the sky
leaving behind a lifetime of stories to tell
homeless squirrels confused and bewildered
displaced birds are lost without their nest
woodland creatures left alone to mourn the loss
of a fallen giant that stood the test of time
then toppled in an instant after a storm for the ages
